I am writing today to pass along the sad news that my kitty Milo has passed away.

I hope my post does not disturb you or make you sad. Rather, I wish to share with you a little bit of the pure joy and happiness Milo brought into our lives. He has left a huge hole in our hearts that only time will help to heal. We fully intend to bring home a new companion for Booger and ourselves, but that will take time as well.

Rob

I had to put Milo to sleep today.

He was an amazing cat.  Friendly, loved new people, sat in your lap, kissed you.  He would wake me up by purring next to my head in the morning.

I will miss you so much Milo.

"The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed."
1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them ;-)

Our Government got our national telecom companies to let them ILLEGALLY and UNCONSTITUTIONALLY wiretap your phones, your internet connections and your emails.

Now the Senate is going to vote on a bill that will let them off the hook scot-free.

DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN.

Write to your Senator, and tell them to vote NO on the FISA Amendments Act.

Your opinion can make a difference. Don't let fear, uncertainty and doubt cloud your judgment. This is YOUR FREEDOM, YOUR RIGHTS on the line.

Find your senator, and make a call, or send an email.

Ugh, the one souvenir I wish I'd left is this cold I got...

God I was depressed when I got off the plane. I wish my wife and I could just live in last week forever. Paris was such a magical city, I can't wait to go back. I will be shipping my bed over, I did miss that. And my cats. =]

While most of the dinners we've had in Paris were good, this one was the first I was really excited about.

We were going to check out L'Atelier Joel Robuchon, but I read a lot of negative things about it, so I took one of the alternate suggestions and tried Pinxo, on rue d'Algier near the Louvre.

It's 3AM here... can't sleep. Couldn't sleep on the plane, so I tried to make it as long as I could after I got here, but we did so much walking that I fell asleep about 7PM. 8-9 hours is my norm, so I'm going to try to sleep at least a couple more hours but it's not looking good.

So far it's been a great experience, people seem pretty friendly actually. Most people who speak English just launch right into it which is nice, but I have been trying my limited French and it's getting us by.

We walked the Plaza outside the Louvre and Tulieries today, which was really neat, but crowded. Saw the kids with the wooden sailboats playing in the ponds, the statues and grand arches, and the Army patrols carrying automatic rifles. =P

Our hotel is near the Opera Garnier, which is pretty nicely located for access to the touristy stuff. The shower isn't all that small, but my feet hang off the end of the bed.

Today I'm going to find a market and get some sodas and other supplies. Sodas at the patisserie down the way are €2,50, which works out to about $4.00. There's a Monoprix nearby, if anyone knows of another market chain near the Opera, let me know.

We ate at the Capucines cafe for lunch. I had a bowl of Onion Soup. I have to say it beats Lulu's by a long shot. Super easy to eat, not rich, huge amount of cheese and bread on top. After 11+ hours of traveling, bus ride, and being ass-tired, that was the best soup I ever ate. It was also the most expensive, clocking in at €37 for the two of us with some water.

We went up to the top of the Galleries Lafayette, and that was an awesome view. We went to the cafe but it was kind of deserted, no one making entrees or appetizers...

Dinner was a Jambon baguette from the patisserie down the street. The french baguette was just the right amount of crunchy with a super soft inside. Salty ham and that was it. Very good. I have an extra in the fridge actually.
